Registered unemployment and underemployment

Registered unemployment rate
 The total numbers ofpeople without work (or work less than 12 hours per week) that a CWI is a Centre for Work and Income is registered as unemployed and available for a job of at least 12 hours per week.
Hidden unemployment: these are the people who are not registered as unemployed but want to do paid work.
It may include:
- Housewives who do pay work to do, but not registered with a CWI.
- Young people who after their training best to have a job, but by studying the probability of work to enlarge.
- Most people on disability benefits that certain activities might want to do.
You see, the registered unemployment rate does not completely reflect the real situation.
You can also become unemployed because you are such a good company to work but that company will suddenly merge with another business to their competition and enhance profits. Then suddenly a number of jobs are deleted, including you. And then there was therefore a very good job, but there is nothing to do. And it is difficult to establish a similar kind of finding employment at another company.

What different types of unemployment are there?

Youth Career Management (YCM) reports that: There are 4 types of unemployment that are cyclical unemployment, structural unemployment, frictional unemployment and seasonal unemployment. We will explain these 4 types of unemployment.

Unemployment is hereby due to the spending down. People have a smaller amount to spend. Because the spending decline there is less need to be produced. This in turn has caused a decline in employment. People have a lower income and therefore have less to spend so this leads to a decrease in employment. But spending is not only to consumer spending but also spending by businesses and government. This unemployment is related to the developments on the demand side of the economy.

This unemployment is slightly more complicated. Causes may include:
- A deterioration of international competitiveness, the profits of the Dutch companies will drop, and they have therefore also less money for staff.
- A low level of education, this leads to deterioration in competitiveness. Because low-skilled people can not innovation take place. Innovation is developing new or improved production processes.
- Disability, people who sit in the disability are unable to work.
- A lack of labor mobility and poor employment, people do not move for a better job, if they in their residence to their meaning. And not just suitable workers change jobs if they do not even know if their net income there is on going forward.

This involves a short time unemployed. If young people leave school they need time for a new job, finding a job just takes time. And the first 3 months when you're unemployed, you are regarded as frictional unemployment. The characteristic of frictional unemployment is that there is work but it takes a while before someone finds it.

In winter months there is no work in certain jobs in generosity, construction and agriculture. The seasonal unemployment has something to do with the season. In the summer there is much more work in a nightclub than in winter because in the summer a lot more tourists.

The supply of labor

Youth Career Management (YCM) reports that: The supply of labor consists of all people between 15 and 65 who want, can and should work. The supply of labor includes not only the people who are looking for a job, so unemployed if they are officially registered, but also the people who already have a job, the workers and the people with their own company: the self-employed. In the self-employed also includes assisting the family. You are not officially unemployed if you are registered at the Centre for Work and Income (CWI).
The population is divided into labor and non-working population. The population is divided into active labor force (the employed and the employees) and the unemployed workforce (registered unemployed). In the non-working people who do hear between 15 and 65 years old but who are not working and not looking for work.
Labor and non-working population is summed age population, which is also potential labor force.

The chances that you make if you do offer the labor market have to do with the other side of the labor market: the demand side. The demand for labor is exercised by business, government and employers. The total demands for labor are employees, the self-employed and vacancies.
An increase in spending leads thus to an increase in labor demand. Conversely, short-term labor demand negatively affected if it goes wrong with the economy.
The demand for labor is also influenced by the prior art. The technical developments of labor replaced by machines (decrease of labor) and new goods and services (increase).

Youth Career Management (YCM) reports that: Most of the clothes you find in stores are manufactured in low wage countries. These are countries where wages are much lower than in Western Europe for example.





The companies need money to pay wages, interest, rental costs, and machine costs, transport costs for raw materials, consumables and energy. The profit is the difference between revenues and costs. A wage increase may cause problems if the wage is greater than the increase in labor productivity.
